Scope and Contents: This collection contains materials related to the Research and Planning Department of the Maryknoll Sisters. The collection is comprised of 13 series that are houses in 17 Hollinger boxes. The records in this collection fall within the date range of 1947-2001.
Series 1, Administrative, contains evaluations, department histories, job descriptions, operational plans, and reports. The series has 5 subseries. Subseries 1, Correspondence, contains correspondence between the department and the Central Governing Board, other Maryknoll Sisters, and external organizations. Subseries 2, Meetings, contains minutes of meetings held either by the Department or of those which a staff member attended. Subseries 3, Publications, contains issues of various newsletters and document mailings created by the department. Subseries 4, Talks by Staff Members, contain transcripts of various talks. Subseries 5, Workshops and Conferences, contain documents from the various workshops and conferences held by the department.
Series 2, Departments, contains mostly correspondence and reports between or about various departments within the Maryknoll Sisters.
Series 3, Planning, documents the planning process the department was involved in mostly at a Congregational level. Records include meeting minutes, correspondence, and reports.
Series 4, Regions, contains materials regarding the work of the department with the regions. These records are not about specific mission locations or they are about more than one region. Types of records include correspondence, personnel requests, and reports.
The next 7 series are divided by region of the world: Africa, Asia, Central Pacific, Latin America, Middle East, United States, and Special Assignments. The records in these series are very similar and include background reports, correspondence, evaluation reports, and visitation reports.
Series 12, Reports and Studies, contains reports and studies that either the department created or participated in. Other types of materials include correspondence and statistics.
Series 13, Research Topics, contain subject files. Types of records include correspondence, reports, and meeting minutes. This series has 1 subseries: Agricultural Missions, Inc. This organization was a Division of Overseas Ministries of the National Council of Churches. The Director of Research and Planning was a member of the Board of Directors. Records include meeting minutes, reports, and correspondence.
